Picture of a Number Concept practice sheetThis page was created to help children learn the number concepts 1 to 5. The children place stickers on dots on the second row and then write the number in the space at the bottom.

Picture of an Addition SheetAs children begin to learn addition, it is sometimes difficult for them to transfer from using manipulatives to writing the answer on their paper. This page was created to be used with the problems on the math pages that the class may do. The same problems are transferred to this page and the student draws shapes to represent the numbers. Then the student can count the total and write the answer in the bottom space. Helping to make task more visually organized has been helpful for several of our students.

Picture of a Writing Numbers practice sheetFor those children who experience difficulty writing their numbers. This adaptation of sandpaper numbers (and letters) is something we have found useful. There is a dot on the sandpaper number so the child knows where to begin tracing the number with their finger. Once the child has traced the letter several times, she can practice writing the number on the lines with a dry erase marker.

Picture of a Counting practice sheetPicture of a Counting Dots SheetLearning to count money is part of our first grade curriculum. We make number charts like these for pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters to help the children see the relationship and practice counting by ones, fives and tens.

Another fun way to learn money is playing money bingo. We use money stickers to help the children begin to count the money in each space. This is an adaptation that all the children love.
