How did you make the decision to have your child participate in the program?
I was impressed by the education of the staff. All the staff are caring and kind but competent in challenging situations as well.

How have you been able to give input into how your child's needs are met?
I've met with the teachers, both formally and informally. The Center allows me to submit in writing my child's strengths, weaknesses and special needs. The Center has also incorporated LPS to assist with orientation and mobility.

Who are the ongoing participants on your child's IEP team?
My child's goals and progress are reviewed with the Child's teacher. Involved in this process are suggestions from LPS vision resource teacher. All teacher's involved in care - even transportation are familiar with special needs, goals.

How are you communicated with on a daily or weekly basis?
Daily written notebook, direct verbal communication.

How has the program benefited your child?
The program is very beneficial because in addition to a caring environment, the Center provides a variety of activities and field trips in which the children with special needs can participate. They provide structure and limits to help children discipline themselves.

Does your child have a special friend?
Kit's special friend is Julie. All the kids are kind and helpful - and very accepting of special needs.

What advice would you give to other parents in placing their children in inclusive programs?
It's beneficial to children who have special needs as well as those who don't. The real key is the teacher's approach and acceptance of inclusion. This provides a role model of acceptance for the children. It becomes a natural relationship.

To what extent do you feel involved in the overall program?
I feel very involved. I feel my suggestions are important. I've always felt that the teachers involve us (parents) as well as the children.

How do you feel your child is benefiting from the inclusive aspect of the program?
Hannah and Kit have the opportunity to interact with children that have other special needs as well as those who have none. This becomes a natural part of their life and prepares them for similar experiences in their future.

Have you had any concerns? If so, how have these concerns been addressed?
I have not had concerns about the program or the Center. My children have not expressed concerns either and are always happy to go. That proves to me it is a happy, non-threatening environment for them..
