How did you make the decision to have your child participate in the program?
Our child was already enrolled in the program when she came to us as a foster child.

How have you been able to give input into how your child's needs are met?
We communicate through a daily notebook, short conversations as we deliver our child, through home visits, and IEP meetings and a variety of other informal meetings, field trips, etc.

Who are the ongoing participants on your child's IEP team?
Us, the Head Start teacher, the early childhood special education teacher, and the speech pathologist.

How are you communicated with on a daily or weekly basis?
Daily drop off, morning drop-offs, and phone calls as needed.

How has the program benefited your child?
Her social skills have improved immensely, her cognitive skills and language skills have also improved. Also, the collaboration between us and the teacher has benefited all of us. She also has developed a wonderful gift for "helping others" like her little brother. Her confidence and self-esteem have also sky rocketed.

Does your child have a special friend?
Yes, she does have a friend who is at school and used to be at day care with her. She also has another friend she talks about and refers to frequently.

What advice would you give to other parents in placing their children in inclusive programs?
I would tell them to take advantage of the opportunity and to participate every chance they get.

To what extent do you feel involved in the overall program?
I feel I have been encouraged to participate throughout daily activities, and have been kept in touch through daily notes, weekly newsletter, and much encouragement by teachers to be involved. I feel the invitation is always open to be in the room and involved.

How do you feel your child is benefiting from the inclusive aspect of the program?
She benefits because of the social interaction, communication with and exposure to all types of children. It has really helped her develop her self-confidence. She is always excited about going to school. It is such a big part of her life.

Have you had any concerns? If so, how have these concerns been addressed?
Yes, when we were dealing with some particular behaviors, we worked closely with the teachers so that we would be consistent in our actions and reactions and worked as a team to address the problem.
