Cognitive Skills

I can...

  • count 1 to 30.
  • recognize many numerals 1 to 100.
  • name all letters & most sounds.
  • name all continents of the world, locate them on a map or globe, and read their names.
    (Africa, North America, South America, Asia, Europe, Australia, Antarctica)
  • name many animals.
  • name colors and read their names.
    (Blue, orange, red, black, gray, pink, purple, green, yellow, brown, white)
  • order things from big to small, thick to thin, and long to short.
  • read numeral words one to seven.

Motor Skills (Gross & fine)

I can...

  • climb.
  • run.
  • jump.
  • pick up tiny items with a pincer grasp.
  • snip with scissors.
  • trace sandpaper letters and numerals.
  • put together simple puzzles.
  • carry a tray of items without spilling

Social Skills

I can...

  • use courtesy words and other social words.
    ("Hi" "Sorry" "Excuse me" "You okay?" "Thank you!" "No, Thank you!")
  • invite friends to play/work
  • make eye contact and smile.
  • take turns and wait for a turn.
  • play simple games.
  • sing songs with the group and imitate some finger plays.
  • walk in line.
  • express emotions and empathize with others.
    (If I see my friend fall down or cry, I say, "You okay? … Calm down.")
  • have 3 to 4 turn conversations with peers.
  • greet peers and adults by name and appropriately say goodbye to peers and adults.
  • join a group time appropriately by choosing a space and sitting down.
  • be aware of others mistakes. (e.g. "No ___! Not your work")
  • use a voice level that is appropriate to a classroom setting.
  • take cues from peers and the environment for my behavior and work.

Verbal Skills

I can...

  • use an ever increasing and diverse vocabulary.
  • use "I" and "me" appropriately.
  • put 4-5 words together spontaneously on a regular basis -even more occasionally.
  • use novel description, i.e.: "Sick fish" to tell us about a dead fish.
  • answer "what" and "where" questions.
  • use good articulation.
  • answer yes/no questions.
  • ask for help from peers and adults.
  • initiate interaction with peers and adults.

Self-help Skills

I can or am...

  • request to go to the bathroom sometimes.
  • toilet regulated for urine and bowel movements.
  • put on / take off "Slippers"
  • put on / take off coat, hat, jacket, and shoes with verbal prompt or occasional physical prompt
  • eat by myself, using fork and spoon.
  • drink from a water fountain.
  • unzip a coat.
  • working on threading and zipping it up.
  • brush my teeth with no toothpaste without a tantrum and with minimal help.
  • wash and dry my hands with minimal help.
