Program and Location

The name of our program is Raintree Montessori School. Our address is 4601 Clinton Parkway, Lawrence, Kansas 66047. Raintree has one toddler class, five (preschool/kindergarten) primary classes, and two elementary classes (1st-3rd grades and 4th-6th grades).

Currently, we have seven working IEP's (and one additional child in the identification process). We have six children with more than one service provider, and several more children with articulation services only. There are two adults per classroom (one Montessori teacher and one assistant). A third adult could be added based on the needs of the children, especially children with disabilities. There is also one program director and one special education director.

Program Services

Services are provided all day from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Our half-day programs are from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.. Extended hours are from 7:30-9 a.m., 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. (with lunch), and 3:30 p.m.- 5:30 p.m. (late p.m. and after school care).

Educational Philosophy

Montessori (of course!) For more information on the Montessori curriculum, see Inclusion Within the Context of a Montessori Classroom by Pam Shanks. Pam is a classroom teacher and the Special Education Coordinator at Raintree.

Our School

Raintree is located on five acres in west Lawrence, KS near Clinton Lake. We have a wading pool, preschool pool, and a five foot deep elementary pool. We also have basketball courts, two large sandboxes, a garden area for each classroom, large playground with wheelchair access, an outdoor volleyball court, a soccer field, a barn, three horses, and one pig(!). There are numerous classroom animals, a pond, and a deck area off each classroom.
