Accommodations

In the toddler classroom several simple accommodations are made for individual children in order to facilitate the child's participation in all classroom activities. Some accommodations not only allow the child to participate in the planned activity, but also provide the child an opportunity to work on a motor goal or objective.

Example of Lesson Plan with Accommodations

Circle Time--Egg and Bunny Activity
Hello Song
Take Easter eggs from container
Sing song, shake eggs
Put eggs back in teachers bag.
Take bunnies from bag.
Sing bunny song and imitate actions with bunnies.
Put bunnies back in teacher's bag.
Teacher reads bunny book and talks about pictures.

Objectives of Circle Time
1. Promote imitation skills.
2. Promote language and signing skills.
3. Make choices.
4. Take object out of container and release object back into container.
5. Learn colors by discussing choice of Easter egg colors.
6. Point to pictures and find detail in books

Activity #1 Make a Bunny

1. Glue cotton balls on bunny.
2. Put raisins on bunny for eyes and nose.

Learning Objectives
Language - talking about bunnies, and how soft they are.
Fine Motor - picking up raisins to put on bunnies, putting glue on paper - squeezing.
Sensory - feel the "soft" cotton, sticky glue
Cognitive - learn body parts on bunny
